Leather is a core material for Clarks, and that’s why we actively participate in groups like the Leather Working Group, which progresses environmental standards within the tanning industry. Another key material for us is Crepe Rubber, a natural material used to sole our iconic products such as the Desert Boot and Wallabee. We are proud signatories to the Forest Stewardship Council ®’s Responsible Natural Rubber Paper, demonstrating industry commitment for sustainable natural rubber. In AW20 we are excited to launch our first FSC® certified crepe rubber outsoles in our Desert Boots. Our target for SS21 is to increase this to 50% of our crepe styles for Clarks Originals. Look out for the FSC® logo to find our FSC ® -certified products. Chemicals are essential in the production of footwear, whether it is the dyes used to bring colour to fabrics or the glues used to construct the shoes. This means proper chemical management is essential, not just for workers, but consumers and the environment as well.
